Ms. Granger's All Grown Up!

Merlin's Beard! Hermione's hair is GONE-and guess what? It looks FANTASTIC! I don't know about you guys, but I got a little verklemt when I saw this picture. Emma Watson just looks so grown up! Remember the first Harry Potter movie, when Hermione was just this sorta mousy yet very cute little thing with her curly hair? Now she looks so sleek and sophisticated!

Plus I was just a little older than Emma Watson herself when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone came out, so now I feel old. I don't look as good as she does, but I'm growing up too, lol. Hermione's always had a special place in my heart for a lot of reasons, mostly because I was always that kid in school. You know, this one:

Now that I think about it, there have been a lot of sci-fi/fantasy heroines who've looked amazing with short hair. Like Trinity from The Matrix trilogy and Anna on V. It's enough to make any chic geek wonder if she would look good with short hair too.

So, to help answer this pressing question, I've scoured the Interwebs for some tips on how to tell if you'd look good with an Emma Watson-style pixie cut, and how to style it if you already have it. And here they are!:

Short Hair Shoulds and Shouldn'ts

1. Are you tall? Think twice about the pixie cut. If you're over, say, 5'7", having extemely short hair will throw your proportions off. Try a bob instead.

2. Have a round or oval face? Go short! Short hair is particularly flattering on these face shapes. Not sure what shape your face even is? Check out this site for a helpful tutorial.

3. Curly Hair? Careful with a short cut. Curly hair tends to get poofy when it's cut short, so avoid the crazy look by going with a longer cut.

4. Really thin hair? Cut it short! Making your hair shorter will give it more volume and bounce, so go for it!

5. Be sure you like your neck and shoulders before going for the pixie cut. Having very short hair will draw attention to these areas, so be sure you're comfortable with that before taking the short-hair plunge.

6. Want to avoid the helmet-head look? Add texture and color. If you decide to go with the pixie cut, make sure the stylist adds dimension to your look. Ask him or her to cut your hair with a razor to give it great texture. Adding highlights can also ensure that you won't look you've got a bowl on your head.

7. Don't wanna look like a dude? Accessorize! Short hair does have the potential to make you look more masculine, but you can tone it down with some delicate/girly accessories. Try a pair of chandelier earrings or a cute barrette. You could even wear a flower in your hair, plastic or real!

Well, there you have it! Short hair just seems like it's easy to take care of too. So go for it if you're lazy. Happy hair cutting!
